Brisbane to introduce permit system for people renting out short-stay properties in Airbnb crackdown
June 17, 2024
People renting out their property on websites such as Airbnb will need to get a permit to continue providing short-stay accommodation in Brisbane amid a major crackdown by the city’s council.
The council has responded to residents’ complaints of noise, anti-social behaviour, overcrowding and security breaches by short-term guests. “We recognise that short-stay accommodation delivers an economic dividend to Brisbane, particularly during major events when hotels are full,” Councillor Fiona Cunningham, who chairs the council’s short-stay accommodation taskforce, said.
